Kaikoura
This twilight photograph is intended to pay gentle homage to the ocean, the heart of Kaikoura on New Zealand's South Island.
Overlooked by the Seaward Kaikoura mountains are twisted and weathered rocky outcrops of the coast, which forms the life and history of this place.
The mountains were named the 'Looker-on Mountains' by Captain James Cook, and were of great significance for the local Iwi many years prior to this. The name Kaikoura means 'meal of crayfish', and so my attention toward this place was inexorably drawn towards the ocean.
I sensed the peninsula to be a nurturing place, and so my photograph aims to be a gentle depiction by using a long exposure of many minutes to calm the surging ocean. This is a rejuvenating location in which to stop a while and take landscape pictures.
