The last hint of daylight melts into the darkness of night at this picturesque boat house on Perth's Swan River, Western Australia.
The frosty smooth surface of the water and serene twilight hues belie the city location of this attractive scene, situated near the heart of Perth and next to a main road. Perth is a vibrant and gregarious city, far enough from anywhere to still be considered somewhat of a frontier town with an eagerness to get things moving and a mining industry to provide plenty of opportunity and wealth.
This photograph reminds me of the kind of calmness that I yearn for after the hustle and heat of the day. Western Australia is good at producing these moments, usually well earned for its hard-working and hard-playing people.
